You drive through a long work zone. Orange drums line both sides of your lane, and the lane next to you is also open. How should you drive until you are fully past the work zone?
A travels through a long work zone between rows of orange drums. The adjacent lane is open and contains another car.
Correct answer: Keep to the center of your lane, and stay in it until the zone ends
Why
In Virginia, orange marks a work zone and tells you to slow down and be alert. Barricades, drums, concrete barriers and cones guide traffic along a path that can be narrow and can shift. A car in the center of its lane has space on each side, and a driver who stays in one lane is easy for others to predict. Obey the posted work-zone speed limit through the whole zone.
