A school bus is stopped at the side of your two-lane road, and children are getting off. Its red lights are not flashing, and its stop arm is not out. What must you do?
A approaches a stopped school bus from behind. The passenger door is open and children move away; the warning lamps are inactive.
Correct answer: Stop and stay stopped until the children are clear and the bus moves
Why
Children can be hard to see and may cross in front of or behind the bus without looking. The rule applies on highways, private roads and school driveways, and to drivers who come from any direction. The only exception is a bus on the other roadway of a divided highway, separated by a barrier or an unpaved area.
