Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
You drive on a road with a speed limit of 45 mph. You plan to turn right at a street ahead. At the least, how far before the turn must your signal start?
A approaches a right turn on a road with the stated 45 mph limit. No distance or signal-start marker is shown.
Correct answer: At least 100 feet before the turn
Why
The manual tells you to signal about 3 or 4 seconds, or 100 feet, before a turn. Virginia law requires at least 100 feet where the lawful speed is more than 35 mph, and at least 50 feet on slower roads (§ 46.2-849). A driver who waits to pull out may not know exactly where you will turn, so stay alert. After the turn, make sure that the signal stops.
