You pass a loaded truck on a freeway at about 55 mph. When is it safe to move back into the truck's lane in front of it?
A is in the left freeway lane while passing white truck B in the right lane. No mirror detail is shown.
Correct answer: When you can see both of the truck's headlights in your rearview mirror
Why
Large vehicles cannot stop as quickly as cars. The guide says that a loaded truck at 55 mph with good brakes needs about 450 feet to stop. If you cut in close and then slow down, the truck driver may not be able to stop in time. After you merge, keep up with the flow of traffic.
