Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You park facing uphill on a rural road that has a gravel shoulder and no curb. You set the parking brake. Which way should you turn the front wheels?
Blue A is parked on a gravel shoulder beside a two-way road, facing uphill. A side profile identifies the slope; no front-wheel detail is displayed.
Correct answer: Toward the edge of the road, so a rolling car moves away from traffic
Why
The curb rules for uphill and downhill parking are different, but the no-curb rule is simple: always turn the wheels toward the edge of the road. Then a car that starts to roll goes off the road and not into moving traffic. Washington law requires a set parking brake and wheels turned to the side of the road when you leave a car on a grade.
