Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You are on a freeway on-ramp with a ramp meter. The car ahead of you goes on a green light, and then the meter turns red for you. What should you do?
A is well back from the white ramp stop line. B has gone past it and the ramp signal is red.
Correct answer: Stop at the white stop line, and go when the meter shows green
Why
A ramp meter is a real traffic signal, so its red light has the same legal effect as a red light at an intersection. After it turns green, use the rest of the ramp to reach the speed of traffic, and merge into a safe gap. Traffic already on the freeway has the right-of-way.
