Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You parallel park facing uphill on a street with a tall curb. You set the parking brake. How should you leave the front wheels?
A is parked facing uphill beside a tall curb. The question gives no front-wheel direction.
Correct answer: Turned away from the curb, with the back of the front tire against the curb
Why
A parking brake can fail, and a car that rolls on a hill can hit people or traffic. The correct wheel position lets the curb stop the car. The Washington Driver Guide adds one detail: at a low or rounded curb, a turn toward the curb can be safer, because the car would roll away from the road. Washington law also requires a set brake and front wheels turned to the curb or side of the road when you leave a car on a grade.
