Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive on a five-lane street and want to turn left into a store driveway about two blocks ahead. The middle lane has a solid yellow line on each outer edge and a broken yellow line inside each solid line. How may you use this middle lane?
A is in a through lane on a five-lane street, with a store turn two blocks ahead stated on the card. The center lane has solid outer and broken inner yellow lines.
Correct answer: Enter it just before the driveway, only to prepare for your left turn.
Why
A center left-turn lane lets turning drivers leave the through lanes, so traffic behind them can keep moving. Drivers from both directions use the same lane, so a car that travels in it for a long distance, or uses it to pass, can meet a turning car head-on. Move into it a short distance before your turn, signal, and wait there for a safe gap in oncoming traffic.
