Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are stopped in an intersection on a green light (no arrow), waiting to turn left. An oncoming car is close and will reach the intersection in a moment. What should you do?
A waits in the intersection to turn left on a green light, while oncoming B is close. The cars retain their approach headings and no turning route is shown.
Correct answer: Wait with your wheels straight, and turn after the oncoming car passes.
Why
A left turn crosses the path of oncoming traffic, so the turning driver must yield to vehicles that are in the intersection or close enough to be a hazard. After they pass and the way is clear, you may turn, and traffic from that direction must then yield to you. While you wait, keep your wheels straight so that a bump from behind cannot push you into the oncoming lane.
