Intersections & Right-of-WayStandalone practice
Your traffic light is green, and a pavement arrow shows that your lane may turn left. A police officer in the intersection holds up a hand toward you to stop. What should you do?
A circular green light appears beside an officer facing the viewer with a hand raised palm-out. Neither control is selected or ranked.
Correct answer: Stop and obey the officer, because the officer overrules the signal.
Why
A police officer's directions overrule any sign, signal or pavement marking. Officers direct traffic when signals fail, after crashes, and at busy events, often to prevent a conflict that you cannot see. Stop, watch the officer, and move only when you are told to; also obey flaggers in work zones.
