Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a highway with two lanes in your direction, you want to pass a motorcycle. The rider is in the left part of the right lane, and the left lane is clear. What should you do?
A approaches motorcycle B from behind on a road with two lanes in the same direction. B occupies the left portion of the right lane; the adjacent left lane is clear and no pass is drawn.
Correct answer: Move fully into the left lane to pass, and return only when you are well ahead.
Why
A motorcycle is small and hard to see, and a rider moves within the lane to be seen and to avoid holes, gravel and wind. When you follow a motorcycle, keep at least a three-to-four-second gap, and add more time at night and in bad weather. After you pass, check that you are well ahead before you return to the lane. A rider in a crash is almost always badly hurt or killed.
