You must walk along a two-lane road that has no sidewalk. Where should you walk?
A two-way road has shoulders but no sidewalk. An approaching car establishes traffic direction; no pedestrian is placed on either side in the question.
Correct answer: On the left side of the road or its shoulder, facing oncoming traffic.
Why
When you face oncoming traffic, you can see each car that comes near and step away if the driver does not see you. The manual also tells pedestrians to walk on the shoulder if possible and, at night, to wear white or light-colored clothing or carry a light. As a driver, expect pedestrians on roads with no sidewalks, and give them plenty of room.
