Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road, a car follows very close behind you. You tapped your brakes gently and slowed down to invite it to pass, but it stays on your bumper. A wide, paved pull-off is just ahead. What should you do next?
A travels in its lane with B following close behind. An open paved pull-off lies ahead on the right, and no path enters it before answering.
Correct answer: Pull into the pull-off, stop, and let the car go by.
Why
A tailgater leaves no room to stop, so the danger is behind you, where you have the least control. The manual gives three steps in order: tap the brakes gently to warn the driver, slow down to invite a pass, and if that fails, pull over, stop and let the vehicle go. With the tailgater in front of you, the gap is again in your control.
