Weather, Visibility & EmergenciesStandalone practice
You drive on packed snow behind a pickup truck. The truck passes a signpost, and you reach the same post 4 seconds later. What should you do?
A follows silver pickup B on a snow-covered road. A fixed roadside post is visible, and the card gives the stem’s 4-second interval; no desired interval is shown.
Correct answer: Drop back until the gap is at least 6 seconds.
Why
A stop on snow or ice can take as much as 12 times the distance of a stop on dry pavement. A longer gap gives you time to slow down gently. Bridges and overpasses can be icy when the rest of the road is clear.
