You stop at a red light behind another car. How much space should you leave in front of your car?
Silver car B is stopped before a stop line at a red light. The following driver's position and eye view are not shown; no gap is selected.
Correct answer: Enough space that you can see where its rear tires touch the road.
Why
When you can see the rear tires of the vehicle ahead touching the road, you have room to steer around it if it stalls, and a push from behind is less likely to shove you into it. Driver examiners check this gap during the road test. Also stop behind the stop line or crosswalk, never inside the intersection.
