Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive in the lane beside a tractor-trailer on an Interstate. You cannot see the truck driver's face in the truck's side mirror. What should you do?
A is beside the middle of tractor-trailer B on the Interstate. The card states that A cannot see the truck driver in the side mirror; no escape or passing path is selected.
Correct answer: Pass the truck without delay, or drop back to where you can see the driver in the mirror.
Why
A truck has large blind spots at its front, at both sides and behind it, and the larger the vehicle, the larger the blind spots. The truck driver cannot see a car there, and can change lanes or turn into it. A fully loaded tractor-trailer at 55 mph needs about three times the distance that a car needs to stop, so never slow down suddenly in front of a truck.
