Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
On a two-lane street, cars are coming toward you on your left, and a child is riding a bike near the right edge. You cannot meet them one at a time. How should you position your vehicle?
A is between oncoming car B to its left and child cyclist C near the right edge of its lane.
Correct answer: Move closer to the center line to give the child more room.
Why
Defensive drivers first try to separate risks by adjusting speed so they meet hazards one at a time. When that is not possible, they compromise and give the most room to the greatest danger. A child on a bike can turn suddenly, so shift toward the center line to give yourself more room on the right, and slow down as needed.
