Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
Snow has made the Interstate pavement slick. In good conditions you keep a 2-second gap behind the vehicle ahead. What gap should you keep now?
Correct answer: Double or triple it, to about 4 to 6 seconds.
Why
On the Interstate, leave at least 2 seconds between you and the vehicle ahead in good conditions. In bad weather or on slick pavement, make that time two or three times longer, because your tires have less grip and you need more distance to stop. Rear-end crashes are the most common type of crash on the Interstate, and Wyoming law does not allow following more closely than is reasonable for the speed, the traffic and the road conditions.
