Your Interstate exit is 2 miles ahead. What is the correct way to leave the Interstate?
A is in the left of two Interstate through lanes. A white card states that the exit is 2 miles ahead; no deceleration lane is yet beside the car.
Correct answer: Signal and move right a mile or more early; slow in the deceleration lane.
Why
Plan your exit early: watch for signs that show your exit and the lane you need, then signal and move into that lane a mile or more before the exit. Do not slow down on the Interstate itself; wait until you have turned into the deceleration lane, because slowing in a through lane can cause a rear-end crash. After you leave the Interstate, check your speed and watch for two-way traffic.
