Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You are driving a car at 55 mph beside a loaded tractor-trailer. Your car can stop in about 130 to 140 feet. About how far does the loaded truck usually need to stop from the same speed?
Correct answer: About 190 to 200 feet
Why
A loaded tractor-trailer needs much more distance to stop than a car, and that distance can double when its brakes are hot. If you cut in front of a truck and then slow down, the driver may not be able to stop in time. After you pass a truck, leave a large gap before you move in front of it, and do not slow down suddenly ahead of it.
