You are stopped at the stop line of an intersection in the right lane. The pavement in your lane shows a right-turn arrow and the word ONLY. There is no overhead sign. You planned to go straight. What must you do?
A waits behind the stop line in the right northbound lane of a four-way intersection. A right-turn pavement arrow and ONLY appear behind the car. The road continues straight across; no overhead sign is present.
Correct answer: Turn right, because a painted lane arrow means the same as an overhead sign.
Why
Lane-use arrows can be on overhead signs or painted on the pavement, and both have the same meaning. When the word ONLY is with the arrow, that lane has one permitted movement. If you are in the wrong lane at the intersection, make the required turn and find a safe route back. Look for lane signs and arrows early so that you can move to the correct lane in time.
