Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
Driver L takes a prescribed pain medicine exactly as directed, but it makes her too drowsy to drive safely. She drives anyway. Which statement is correct?
Correct answer: She can be charged with DWUI; a prescription is not a defense.
Why
Wyoming's DWUI (driving while under the influence) law covers alcohol, controlled substances and any other drug that can impair a person's physical or mental abilities. If a drug makes you incapable of driving safely, you break the law, and a valid prescription is not a defense. Pain medicines, sleeping pills and some allergy drugs can have this effect. If a medicine makes you drowsy, arrange another way to travel.
