Weather, Visibility & EmergenciesStandalone practice
The brake pedal suddenly sinks to the floor and normal braking is lost. What should you try to help slow the car safely?
Correct answer: Pump the pedal, then use the parking brake and a lower gear.
Why
For the loss-of-pressure failure described, pumping the pedal may restore pressure. If it does not, shift to a lower gear and use the emergency or parking brake carefully to slow, while steering to a safe place. This is not advice to pump working ABS during ordinary emergency braking. Follow the vehicle’s instructions for its parking-brake system.
