Passing target: 80% (20/25)
On a two-way road, which side is normally used to pass a slower vehicle traveling in the same direction?
Blue A follows silver B in the right-hand lane of a two-way road. A broken yellow line separates the opposing lane, which is empty in this schematic snapshot.
Correct answer: The left side, when the pass is lawful and clear.
Why
An ordinary pass is to the left, with safe clearance and only where signs, markings, sight distance and traffic permit it. Return right only when safely clear of the passed vehicle; the handbook recommends seeing its entire front in your rearview mirror. If the pass uses the opposing lane, return before coming within 200 feet of an approaching vehicle. Have enough clear distance before starting.
