Passing target: 80% (20/25)
On a two-way road, may a driver cross left of center for an ordinary motor-vehicle pass near a hillcrest or curve where the obstructed view creates a hazard from oncoming traffic?
Correct answer: No; wait until you can see far enough ahead to pass.
Why
Do not cross left of center for this pass when a hillcrest or curve hides oncoming traffic and creates a hazard. The law also restricts driving left of center within 100 feet of or through an intersection or railroad crossing, and when approaching within 100 feet of a bridge, viaduct or tunnel with an obstructed view. The intersection restriction has a specific exception for a state- or county-maintained highway outside city limits unless official no-passing controls are placed at least 100 feet before that intersection. Separate exceptions cover one-way roads, a necessary obstruction detour with yielding to hazardous oncoming traffic, and a left turn into or from an alley, private road or driveway. These exceptions do not permit the ordinary blind pass described here.
