Passing target: 80% (24/30)
After a heavy storm, water covers a dip in the road ahead, and you can see it moving across the pavement. It looks only a few inches deep, and a pickup truck just drove through it. What should you do?
A approaches water covering both lanes of the road. The water hides the pavement beneath it; the card states that water flows across the dip and a pickup has just passed through. No car path or depth marker is selected.
Correct answer: Turn around and take another route, or go to higher ground and wait if there is no other route.
Why
Flash floods can come within minutes of heavy rain, and floodwater often hides damage to the road below it. Water that looks shallow can be deeper than you think, and moving water pushes hard against a car. Take extra care at night, when water on the road is hard to see. If your car ever goes into deep water, get out at once, through an open window if you can.
