Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are leaving a parking lot to turn onto a busy street. A pedestrian is walking on the sidewalk across the exit, and a car is coming on the street. What should you do?
A waits in a parking-lot driveway before the sidewalk. A person walks across the exit and B approaches on the street.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, yield to the pedestrian and the car, then enter when clear.
Why
Drivers who enter a street from a driveway, alley, parking lot or roadside do not have the right-of-way. Section 304.351, RSMo, requires them to yield to all vehicles approaching on the street, and the guide adds that they must yield to pedestrians on the sidewalk they cross. Stop before the sidewalk so people can walk past, then look both ways again before you pull out.
