Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You reach the end of an acceleration lane, but freeway traffic is heavy and no driver makes room for you. What should you do?
A nears the end of the acceleration lane. Closely spaced freeway cars leave no opening beside it.
Correct answer: Yield to freeway traffic, even if you must stop at the end of the lane
Why
Drivers already on the freeway should help by adjusting speed or moving over a lane when it is safe, but the entering driver has the duty to yield. RSMo 304.019 bars a move to the right or left until it can be made with reasonable safety. If you do have to stop, wait for a gap long enough to let you speed up before traffic reaches you.
