Your turn-signal lights stop working, and you need to turn left. Which hand-and-arm signal should you give?
Three left-arm positions are shown from behind: straight out, forearm upward and forearm downward. They are numbered 1, 2 and 3.
Correct answer: Left arm and hand held straight out, level
Why
The manual reminds drivers to know the basic hand signals even though cars have turn and brake lights. Montana law sets three signals, all given from the left side: arm straight out for left, forearm up for right, and arm down to stop or slow. Give the signal early enough for others to see it, then put both hands back on the wheel for the turn.
