Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You follow a car on a dry road in normal traffic. How can you check that you are not following too closely?
A follows B on a dry two-lane road with a fixed marker beside the right edge.
Correct answer: Count at least three seconds after the car ahead passes a fixed point.
Why
A three-second gap is a longer distance at a higher speed, so the same count works on city streets and on highways. If you reach the point too soon, drop back and count again at another point. Rear-end crashes are common, and most happen because a driver follows too closely to stop in time.
