Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are approaching a two-lane roundabout in the right lane. A tractor-trailer in the left lane is entering at the same time, and its trailer is swinging across part of your lane. What should you do?
A approaches in the right lane behind a tractor-trailer entering from the left lane. Part of the long truck extends across the line between the entry lanes.
Correct answer: Let the truck go first and stay behind it; do not try to pass it
Why
Roundabouts are built to handle trucks with trailers, but these vehicles need extra room, and their rear wheels may ride over the low truck apron around the center island. A 2025 Montana law requires drivers to yield to a vehicle towing a trailer and not to pass it where the roundabout approach has more than one lane, and it bans entering in a way that interferes with a towing vehicle entering at the same time. Drop back and let the truck clear the roundabout.
