Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are inside a roundabout and have not reached your exit when you hear a siren and see an ambulance with flashing lights behind you. What should you do?
A and an ambulance are inside a single circulating lane. A’s exit leads right past a raised splitter island between entering and exiting traffic.
Correct answer: Go on to your exit, pass the splitter island, then pull over to the right and stop.
Why
Nebraska law tells drivers to yield to an emergency vehicle by pulling to the right edge and stopping, clear of any intersection. A roundabout is an intersection, so you clear it first by going to your exit. If you have not yet entered the roundabout, pull over before the entry and let the emergency vehicle pass. Stay stopped until it has gone by, and watch for a second emergency vehicle before you move on.
