A fully loaded truck with good tires and brakes is moving at 55 mph on dry pavement. According to the Nebraska manual, what is the minimum distance it needs to come to a complete stop?
Correct answer: 340 feet
Why
At 55 mph a vehicle covers about 80 feet each second, so 340 feet is only about four seconds of travel. If you pull in front of a truck and then slow down, the truck driver may not be able to stop in time. Wet or icy roads and downgrades make the distance even longer.
