Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are behind a slow farm tractor on a two-lane highway. The center line on your side is broken, but you are nearing the top of a hill and cannot see what is coming over it. What should you do?
A follows a tractor toward a hill crest beside a broken yellow center line. A side profile shows the hidden roadway beyond the crest.
Correct answer: Stay behind it until you are over the crest and can see a clear road.
Why
Before you pass on a two-lane road, you must be able to see far enough ahead to get back into your lane before you come within 200 feet of any oncoming vehicle. Near a hilltop, a curve or a bridge with a blocked view, you cannot know that. Stay behind the slow vehicle with a safe following gap, and pass after the crest when you can see a long, clear stretch of road.
