You are on a two-way street with two lanes in each direction and no center turn lane. You will turn left onto another street of the same kind. Each street has a left lane next to the center line and a right lane next to the curb. Which lanes should you use?
A approaches a left turn beside the center line of a two-way street with two lanes each way. The receiving street has the same lane layout.
Correct answer: Start in the left lane and turn into the left lane of the new street.
Why
Get into the left lane well before the intersection and signal. Yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to be a hazard and to pedestrians in the crosswalk you will cross. When you can, make the turn to the left of the center of the intersection. After the turn, signal and check your blind spot if you want to move to the right lane.
