Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
You are driving on a city street and plan to turn left into a parking lot. You turn on your signal about 40 feet before the entrance, as you start to brake. What does Nebraska law say about this?
A is approaching a parking-lot entrance on the left. The question card says its signal came on only 40 feet before the entrance.
Correct answer: The signal came too late; it must be on for at least the last 100 feet.
Why
Signal first and then slow down, so that drivers behind you know why you are braking. At 30 mph, you cover 100 feet in about two seconds, so on faster roads it is wise to signal earlier. Do not signal so early that drivers think you will turn at an earlier street or driveway.
