You are approaching an intersection. The broken white line between your lane and the lane beside you changes to a solid white line. What does the solid white line tell you?
Two same-direction lanes approach an intersection. Their broken white separator changes to solid white nearer the crossing.
Correct answer: Lane changes are discouraged, so you should already be in the lane you need for your turn or route.
Why
Near intersections, solid white lines and pavement arrows guide drivers into the correct lane for the turn or route they plan. A curved arrow with the word ONLY in your lane means you must make that turn, and a lane with both a curved and a straight arrow lets you turn or go straight. If you are in the wrong lane, go the way your lane allows and find another route instead of cutting across the solid line.
