Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
On a two-lane road with a 55 mph limit, you are behind a car going 50 mph. You could pass quickly if you went 65 mph. What is the rule?
Correct answer: Stay at or below 55 mph; if that is not enough to pass safely, do not pass.
Why
In Nebraska it is unlawful to exceed the posted speed limit while passing, so the limit applies from start to finish. Passing a vehicle that is only a little slower takes a long distance in the oncoming lane, which raises the chance of meeting traffic head-on. Before passing, ask whether it is really needed and whether you can complete it within the limit.
