Your car has four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS). A car ahead stops suddenly, and you must brake as hard as you can. What should you do?
A neutral car-interior detail shows the brake and accelerator pedals. The caption states that the car has ABS and the vehicle ahead stops suddenly.
Correct answer: Press the pedal hard, hold it down, and steer around the hazard
Why
ABS senses when a wheel starts to lock and pumps the brakes much faster than a person can. Your job is to brake firmly, steer to a clear path after you check traffic, and return to your lane when the hazard is past. If the ABS light stays on long after you start the car, the ABS may not work, but the normal brakes still do.
