Light rain starts to fall after several weeks of dry weather. Why is the road especially slippery at this time?
Correct answer: Rain mixes with the oil on the pavement, so the surface becomes slick.
Why
Oil and grime build up on the pavement during dry weather, and the first rain turns them into a slick layer. Stopping distances on a wet road can be more than double those on dry pavement. Slow down, leave more space, and brake and steer gently.
