You are towing a trailer that you just unloaded, so it is empty. How should you manage your following distance?
Blue towing vehicle A pulls an open trailer with an empty bed behind silver B on a two-lane road. The coupler meets the towing vehicle hitch.
Correct answer: Keep a large following distance, since an empty rig can lock its wheels and take longer to stop.
Why
When trailer wheels lock, the trailer can swing out and hit other vehicles, and the rig can jackknife. A large gap lets you brake early and gently instead of making a panic stop. Space matters even more for a combination, because it needs more room to stop and to turn.
