You want to parallel park on a street with a fire hydrant. The only open space would put your front bumper about 10 feet from the hydrant. What should you do?
Blue A considers a curb space that leaves 10 feet to a fire hydrant. The hydrant and car are the distance reference points.
Correct answer: Find another space, since you must stay at least 15 feet from a hydrant.
Why
Firefighters need clear access to a hydrant and room to connect hoses, and there is no time to move cars in a fire. The handbook gives 15 feet where parallel parking is permitted and 20 feet where angle parking is permitted. NRS 484B.450 applies the 20-foot distance for angle parking when a local ordinance requires it.
