Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
You want to make a U-turn on a two-lane road near the top of a hill. No sign prohibits U-turns there. What is the minimum distance from which drivers coming from each direction must be able to see your car?
A is near a hillcrest on a two-lane road. A separate side-profile diagram identifies its position on the rising slope, with no visibility-distance values or correct comparison example before answering.
Correct answer: 500 feet.
Why
A U-turn is slow, and for a time your car blocks the lanes in both directions. Approaching drivers need enough distance to see you and stop. The handbook also says never to make a U-turn when rain, fog or another cause keeps you from seeing clearly in each direction.
