Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You park facing downhill on a street with a curb. Your car has an automatic transmission. How should you set the wheels, the brake and the gear so that the car cannot roll?
A faces downhill beside a curb on its right. A side-profile inset identifies the downward grade, and the card states that A has an automatic transmission.
Correct answer: Turn the front wheels toward the curb, set the parking brake, and shift to park
Why
On a hill, a parked car needs more than one way to stay in place. The manual says to set the parking brake, put an automatic transmission in park or a manual transmission in gear, and turn the wheels into the curb. RSA 265:72 also requires the front wheels to turn to the curb or the side of the road when a car stands unattended on a grade.
