Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive on a dark rural road behind another car, so you use your low beams. Your headlights light only a short stretch of road. How should you choose your speed?
A follows B on a dark two-way rural road. A’s low beams illuminate a short stretch ahead, ending before B.
Correct answer: Slow enough that you can stop within the distance your headlights light up
Why
Night driving is harder because you see only as far as your headlights reach, and dark shapes are hard to pick out. Search ahead beyond the beams and glance to the sides for the edge of the road and for hazards that come from the side. Use high beams only when no vehicle is coming toward you or driving ahead of you, and dim them for oncoming traffic.
