Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You enter a highway work zone at night. No sign lowers the speed limit, and you do not see any workers. How should you drive through it?
A follows B through a dark highway work zone marked by cones along the right edge. No workers or lower speed-limit sign are shown; the headlights give a short forward glow.
Correct answer: Slow down and add following distance until you see the END ROAD WORK sign
Why
Work zones can have narrow lanes, lane shifts, rough pavement and equipment close to traffic, even when no one is working. The manual tells drivers to slow down, leave more following distance and be ready to stop, with extra care at night. New Hampshire's basic speed law, RSA 265:60, also requires a speed that is reasonable for the actual and potential hazards.
