Passing target: 80% (40/50)
You are driving on a two-lane road with one lane in each direction. At a marked crosswalk with no traffic signal, a pedestrian has just stepped off the far curb into the oncoming lane and is walking toward your side. What must you do?
A approaches a marked crosswalk in the westbound lane. B has just stepped off the far curb into the opposite eastbound lane and is walking toward A’s side.
Correct answer: Stop and stay stopped, since the pedestrian is within one lane of your half.
Why
The 2026 manual also says to come to a complete stop, not only slow down, and to stay stopped until the pedestrian has cleared your lane and the next lane. Never block or park in a crosswalk, and never pass a car that has stopped for a pedestrian. A pedestrian's mistakes do not remove your duty to use due care.
