Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You are on a road with two lanes going your way, separated by a broken white line. A slower car is ahead in your lane. What does the broken white line allow?
A follows a slower B on a two-lane one-way roadway. A broken white line separates their lane from the clear lane on the left.
Correct answer: You may cross it to change lanes after you check that it is safe
Why
White lines separate lanes of traffic going the same way, and yellow lines separate traffic going in opposite directions. Even where a broken white line allows lane changes, a vehicle may be hidden in your blind spot. On a road with two or more lanes going your way, keep to the right lane except when you pass.
