Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You are driving through a residential neighborhood in New Mexico, and you have not seen any speed limit sign. What is the maximum speed?
Correct answer: 30 mph
Why
Business and residential streets have more driveways, parked cars, pedestrians and children, so the default limit is lower than on open roads. Local authorities may post a different limit after an engineering and traffic study, and the posted sign then controls. Even at or below 30 mph, slow down further when people, parked vehicles or poor conditions call for it. It is easy to keep too much speed when you leave a fast road, so check your speedometer as you enter a town.
