On a freeway, you have been driving next to the trailer of a large truck, in the lane to its left, for about a minute. You cannot see the truck driver's face in the truck's side mirror. What should you do?
A travels in the lane to the left of a large truck and remains alongside its trailer. The card states that the truck driver’s face is not visible in the side mirror.
Correct answer: Move ahead of the truck or drop back, so you are no longer beside it.
Why
Truck drivers call their large blind spots the No Zone, and they lie along both sides and close behind the truck. At 55 mph a car can stop in about 400 feet, but a large truck can need almost 800 feet. So when you pass on the left, get by quickly and leave plenty of room before you move back in front.
